Epic Vacation.
I’ll say it again, because it’s so true. Epic Vacation.
We made this trip with some great friends and spent several days in Yellowstone National Park and then moved South to the Grand Tetons for a few days. Altogether, we spent almost three weeks on this trip.
Yellowstone was everything as advertised and imagined. We were there first week of June and winter was late leaving. The animals were still down low and they were in abundance everywhere. Bear, moose, elk, bison, you name it, we saw it.
The hiking was a little more civilized on this trip due to a lot of recent bear activity, but we saw some beautiful places. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Lamar Valley, and a lot of other places.
The snow hit near the end of week one and made everything a little more interesting on those high mountain passes. Some of the passes got closed due to weather in Yellowstone and we got stranded on the north side. It took a good part of the day to wind around to the far west side to make it down to the lower loop.
Everything in Yellowstone is big and the views are stunning. The landscape is varied between mountain passes and steam vents. Thick forests and high plains.
We even did a whitewater rafting trip and the first guided horseback ride of the season into the backcountry. The weather was tough most of the time that week, but it cleared up later in the trip when we moved south into the Tetons.
